I would not use Avis again. Paid £1,100 for a 2 week car rental in Portugal. When we picked up the car, they overcharged us for an automatic upgrade (they said £280 but charged nearly £400 on our card - still waiting for a reason from Avis). Hardly used the car, and on return, an agent pointed out a small white scuff (not a scratch or dent) on the bumper. We didn't think we made it but figured it would come off. I checked with the agent at the Faro airport office, and he agreed we would only pay 17 euros for petrol. I wish I'd got this in writing but trusted Avis. Later, we got an email saying we were being charged over 400 Euros for the scuff!! Completely unfair and dishonest. Awful service from such a big company like Avis. We've rented cars worldwide (never from Avis before) and this is the first issue we've had.

rented a car for a week while I was in Arizona helping my mother through hip surgery. Two weeks later, I received a letter claiming they were charging me $450 for cleaning because they said I smoked in the car. It's ridiculous because I have never smoked in my life. I am so disappointed and angry that they would try to scam me out of my money. I even went on Google to check the reviews and saw so many 1 star ratings and complaints about unwarranted charges. It's clear that this company is not trustworthy and I hope the courts will take action against them.

I made a reservation just

I made a reservation just the day before my trip, but had to cancel it 12 hours later because my flight got delayed. And guess what? They kept my prepayment and didn't give me a single cent back. Apparently, there's some sneaky clause in their contract that says if you reserve within six days of your pick up date and then cancel, tough luck, your money is gone. And let me tell you, this clause was nowhere to be found in the email I received when I made the reservation. Talk about shady business practices!

Our experience with Avis in the US left much to be desired. We found ourselves unjustly slapped with fuel charges despite having refueled the car just before returning it. The real issue surfaced when we tried to address this matter with their customer service – a rather disappointing ordeal. We opted for Avis, expecting a more reliable and serious rental service, but it turned out to be a misjudgment on our part.

This company seems untrustworthy. I rented a car for a funeral, but when the named driver missed their flight, I asked for another car. They quoted me one price, but when I got billed, it was double. Even though someone witnessed the original quote, Avis refused to acknowledge the mistake. They only care about money, not customer satisfaction. Beware of dealing with them.

I'm still waiting for the deposit to show up on my credit card since January. When I was in Haiti, they charged $2000.00 on my credit card for a car, even though I only rented it for two weeks at $1400.00, paying $100.00 per day. Every time I try calling, no one answers. I'm not sure what steps to take to get my money back.
